Kelly Services Payroll and Accounts Payable Assistant in Abbotsford, Canada

Job Summary

Our clients are seeking an experienced Payroll and Accounts Payable Assistant to join their head office based in Abbotsford. Reporting directly to the Controller, this role is responsible for completing a multi-company biweekly payroll and providing support for A/P and general office admin and accounting functions.

Job Responsibilities:


  • Completing biweekly payroll for approximately 250 people in a multi-company environment with both union and non-union operations in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan.

  • Maintaining employee pay information, pay adjustments, terminations and journal entries.

Accounts Payable

  • Maintain vendor relationships.

  • File & Match Packing slips.

  • Ensure proper approvals.

  • AP invoice entry/vouching.

  • Follow up on queries.

  • Cheque Runs (1st & 15th).

  • Wire Payments.

  • Month end reconciliations.


  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in payroll functions.

  • Excellent working knowledge of ADP WorkForce Now software.

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Outlook and Word.

  • In depth understanding of employment standards and payroll requirements for BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan and some familiarity with the requirements of collective agreements.

  • A keen understanding of privacy law and a desire to maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality in the processing of personal information.

  • Experienced and comfortable with meeting time constrained reporting deadlines.

  • Some familiarity with MRP/ERP systems and the integration of financial reporting in them.

  • Some knowledge and training in general accounting practices with good working knowledge of A/P practices.

  • Professional payroll designation is not required for this role but is desirable.
