We are seeking a Data Scientist to work at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS/SERVICES . The contractor shall:

  1. Performs computations on research data for analysis and develops novel computational modeling approaches based on theory.

  2. Contribute to the writing of manuscripts, the preparation of oral and poster presentations of lab data.

  3. Supports junior laboratory staff on research projects and techniques. Meets regularly with junior staff in the laboratory and provides guidance and mentorship on research projects including data analysis, data presentation, and interpretation

  4. Facilitate reports of advances on projects, data collected, preliminary data for annual reports, BSC reports, and any other official report required by the PI.

  5. Integrate data storage and proper documentation within the projects’ workflows and the analysis pipelines to facilitate data sharing and compliance with NIH’s requirements for storage and sharing according to the plan.

  6. Collaborate with staff to create a dedicated Data Science and Sharing Team for Neuroimaging: within the Neuroimaging Core FMRIF

  7. Performs computations on research data analysis.

  8. Implement a shared repository for researchers to store, organize and access neuroimaging and phenotypic data collected at NIMH

  9. Works with staff on scientific programming and experimental design.

  10. Conduct educational courses on data science and data sharing techniques

  11. Supports the planning and execution of research experiments in the context of the laboratory's overall research program.

  12. Collaborate with staff to create a dedicated Data Science and Sharing Team for Neuroimaging: within the Neuroimaging Core FMRIF

  13. Supports laboratory staff on research projects and techniques.

  14. Implement a shared repository for researchers to store, organize and access neuroimaging and phenotypic data collected at NIMH

  15. Maintains laboratory equipment and the training of others in their use.

  16. Conduct educational courses on data science and data sharing techniques

  17. Assists in maintaining adequate space and facilities for ongoing and projected research studies.

  18. Provide direct support to NIMH researchers employing best practices, data science techniques

  19. Evaluates, analyzes and interprets research data, communicates results and methods in reports, presentations, and manuscripts.

  20. Conduct a bibliometric analysis of peer reviewed literature to determine the current state of data sharing practices within the NIMH IRP

  21. Provide direct support to NIMH researchers employing best practices, data science techniques

  22. Provides statistical support / analysis on research data.

  23. Conduct a bibliometric analysis of peer reviewed literature to determine the current state of data sharing practices within the NIMH IRP

  24. Coordinates with junior staff to modify research protocols.

  25. Combine this analysis with information collected directly from NIMH researchers to produce a yearly report for the NIMH IRP leadership on the state of data sharing within IRP

  26. Presents research at national scientific meetings and symposia.

  27. Collaborate with the Machine Learning Core to develop novel methods and biomarkers for disease and cognitive states

  28. Provides research / service goals in the context of the laboratory's overall mission.

  29. Combine this analysis with information collected directly from NIMH researchers to produce a yearly report for the NIMH IRP leadership on the state of data sharing within IRP

  30. Evaluates new types of experimental approaches to protocols based on knowledge of scientific literature, available facilities and research needs.

  31. Collaborate with the Machine Learning Core to develop novel methods and biomarkers for disease and cognitive states

  32. Designs and implements software and hardware systems to support scientific research.

  33. Apply the techniques of parallel computing to computationally intensive tasks that are encountered in biomedical applications.

  34. Provides support for database organization, data storage and management.

  35. Supports the planning and execution of research experiments in the context of the laboratory's overall research program.

  36. Provides support on integration of data acquisition software and data analysis applications for multimodal data.

  37. Provide support on the implementation and testing of analytical pipeline for diverse data types, from behavioral, to physiological, to neural data.

  38. Research existing and new technologies used in medicine and scientific research to evaluate how it might be optimized and expounded upon through better technology and applications.

  39. Investigate the suitability of specific methods, algorithms, and software approaches to clinical experiments and testing.

  40. Collaborate with other investigators in the laboratory and other partners at NIH and outside of NIH to support the laboratory's research program.

  41. Collaborate with staff to design and program computerized tasks, analyze, interpret data on cognitive processes.

  42. Supports online data collection efforts.

  43. Conduct or provide support to other staff on best practices in data science, data storage, and data sharing.

  44. Supports PI in mentoring students, potbacs, and managing small projects.

  45. Maintain deep understanding of computer science theories and the latest trends and developments in computational and information sciences.

  46. Search scientific literature to select and modify computational methods and procedures.

  47. Records observations and reports results at weekly laboratory meetings. Present advances on projects at lab meetings, joint lab, project, and one-on-one meetings

  48. Evaluates, analyzes and interprets research data and contributes to presentations and manuscripts.

  49. Mentors junior level scientists by providing scientific and technical expertise to all visiting fellows, postdocs and postbacs.

  50. Provides interpretation of results, guidance and scientific support to the research team.

  51. Help conduct educational courses, workshops, tutorials, hackathons on computational modeling or data science and data sharing techniques.

  52. Provides support and training on data visualization techniques.

  53. Present or support others’ presentations at local, national, and international conferences or symposia.

  54. Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large scale data analyses, model development, model validation and model implementation

  55. Research and implement novel machine learning and statistical approaches.

  56. Develop and tests computational models of cognition and perception, including but not limited to human or animal learning and decision-making

  57. Collaborate with the Machine Learning Core to develop novel methods and biomarkers for disease and cognitive states.

  58. Stay up to date with the literature and novel data science, data analysis, statistical approaches in the field.

REQUIREMENTS . The contractor must have:

  1. PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience, Data Science, Computer Programming, Data Processing and/or related fields

  2. Experience with: Structural Equation Modeling, Machine Learning, Database

  3. Management, Signal Processing, Cognitive Computational Modeling

  4. Experience with Software such as: R, Python, MATLAB
