Job Description

Electronic Control Technician, Direct Hire, Up to $30.21/hour

You will be responsible for installing, calibrating, troubleshooting and maintaining control instrumentation systems for food processing systems. Technician will install, set up, calibrate, troubleshoot and maintain a wide variety of instrumentation and control throughout the process. The Technician will install control networks and program control software including other associated hardware. The Technician performs mechanical installations, repairs, and adjustments.

Must also be comfortable in the following:

  • Describe, in detail, process control and instrumentation operating concepts and fundamentals

  • Interpret and apply technical codes.

  • Interpret and revise instrumentation drawings including ladder logic schematics, loop diagrams, P&IDs, and process flow diagram.

  • Interpret and revise hydraulic and pneumatic drawings

  • Analyze and troubleshoot instrumentation, networks, and low voltage wiring using voltage analyzers, amprobes, oscilloscopes, calibrators, and digital multimeter and the HART analyzer.

  • Install bearings, seals, and gaskets consistent with process and control instrumentation maintenance requirements.

  • Install instrumentation tubing, valves, and pumps.

  • Perform basic electrical tasks including cable pulling, raceway installation, and low voltage wire installation (including termination).

  • Install, maintain, and repair AC/DC equipment.

  • Install, set up, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate instrumentation and controls in hazardous environments.

  • Install, set up, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate flow meters, transmitters, recorders, analyzers, positioners, indicators, controllers, control valves, and relays employing a wide variety of operating concepts.

  • Maintain and calibrate weighing systems.

  • Install analog and digital Networks including network cabling.

  • Install, program and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers.

  • Troubleshoot and maintain Delta V and RS III software and hardware systems.



Must have at a minimum, have a 2-year technical degree (Electronics, Industrial Technology, HVAC, Network Specialist, Electrical, or Control System Technician.


High School degree or diploma is required although a GED certificate is acceptable and work experience.

Work Experience:

Must have minimum of three (3) years of instrument shop/electronic experience


Minimum of 3 years successful completion of the ACS ECT Apprentice program

Physical and Environmental Job Conditions

Physical duties which include, but are not limited to, the job requirements defined below. Physical Demands Daily activities include: Lifting/carrying, pushing/pulling, manual tool operation, hand work, standing, walking, sitting, hand manipulation and strength, bending, twisting, reaching, squatting, crouching, kneeling and crawling. Individuals are required to climb ladders and stairs. Lifting and carrying will not be in excess of 50 lbs. Elevation: Occasionally to frequent, mechanical parts are located at heights requiring elevated work. Working with a variety of stationary equipment where elevated work is required due to confined space and limited access by ladder. The Mechanic will need to identify the safest manner in which to access the work area. The Mechanic must be able to identify where to tie off, secure the tie or lanyard, and tolerate working while tied off with a safety harness. Individuals will be required to work at elevated conditions.

Environmental Conditions

  • Work is primarily indoors, but may involve working outdoors for short periods of time. Indoor temperatures may exceed 80 degrees F and outdoor temperatures may fall below 0 degrees F.

  • Exposure to elevated work heights and/or work underground at times.

  • Exposure to fumes inside the plant; odors may vary from natural (pulp/fiber) to chemical in nature.

  • Exposure to the hazards of low, medium, and high voltage electricity.

  • Work within designated confined spaces, entry may require crouching, crawling and/or climbing.


This is a direct hire position. Up to $30.21/hour. Position is located in Crookston, MN. Benefits start day 1, to include health and dental insurance, holiday, vacation, and sick pay, 401K and matching funds, pension and tuition reimbursement programs.
