Senior Formulation Scientist

Kelly Science has a new opening for a Senior Formulation Scientist opening near Greenville SC with one of our growing clients.

Job Overview:

The Sr. Formulation Scientist will be responsible for creating new and reformulated softgels and gummy products from prototype to final production, including cost analysis. The candidate is responsible for providing technical support to internal and external customers when necessary, and to provide scientific support for all formulation-related issues.

Salary up to 100K depending on experience

Responsibilities:

  • Capable of supporting and leading simple to moderately complex formula development

  • Assist in developing new formulas, troubleshooting problematic formulas, salvaging raw material, and reworking failed production batches.

  • Support senior PD staff with preparation / execution of pilot batches and product scale-up batches and gather data to support in-process parameters and finished product specification.

  • Formulate softgels and gummies based on customer requests, which will range from detailed specifications to very broad requests for development support.

  • Perform bench trials, physical evaluations, and collect data to support product formulation.

  • Prepare specifications, documentation, and reports related to formulations.

  • Address quality, regulatory, and labeling issues in bulk and finished product

  • Continuously refine and develop tableting and encapsulation capabilities in accordance with customer demands and sales growth.

  • Prepare and approve Master Batch Records (MBR’s), Master Change Requests (MCR’s), Formula A-Page documents

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology or chemistry or other equivalent degree in a related field required, MS or PhD in Science related field preferred.

  • 6+ years hands-on experience in formulation of dietary supplement (DS) products and /or over the counter (OTC), OR preferred education background and four year of hands-on formulation experience can be substituted for minimum experience required; 8+ years of hands-on formulation experience with preferred education background.

  • Ability to use the principles of general science, chemistry, and physics to produce formulations that will run efficiently in manufacturing operations.

  • Must be able to safely operate equipment and instruments used in the development and manufacture of nutritional dosage-forms.

  • Must be able to use mathematical skills to accurately calculate formula inputs as well as to create cost approximations for finished products in bulk and/or packaged forms.
