We are currently seeking a Laboratory Management Assistant to work onsite with the National Institutes of Health in Rockville, MD .

TASKS. The contractor shall:
Organize and maintain laboratory to support a complex and multifaceted high-throughput research operation; ensure maximum efficiency of screening operations.
Create, implement and manage standard operating procedures (SOPs) to streamline laboratory operations/management.
Track metrics and help coordinate scheduling of screens and other production streams.
Work with staff on relocation of people and equipment as programmatic needs evolve.
Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of a wide range of equipment including, but not limited to, incubators, freezers, liquid handlers, imagers, centrifuges, robotic devices, water polishers, genetic analyzers, balances, microscopes, etc.
Initiate service agreements on select equipment to maximize performance and reduce down-time.
Coordinate with lab staff repair and servicing of laboratory and robotic equipment.
Obtain price quotes from vendors on repair of scientific equipment.
Work with lab staff on the scheduling of periodic maintenance and certification (biosafety cabinets, chemical fume hoods, incubators, freezers, etc.).
Establish/maintain general inventory system and rotate time sensitive media and components to eliminate redundancy of orders.
Track and adjust inventory to satisfy lab needs for screening, assays and chemistry.
Check and replenish lab gases.
Prepare various media and stock solutions for immediate use in tissue culture and laboratory areas; clean and autoclave glassware, pipettes, tubes and buffers for Biology.
Maintain stock levels of reagents and supplies; ensure that stock is available in the research areas; reorder supplies from NIH Supply Center or through other mechanisms when applicable; keep adequate reserves in designated storage areas.
Oversee inventory functions and work with procurement staff to ensure uninterrupted and cost-effective availability of reagents, supplies, equipment and delivery of products back to collaborators.
Prepare purchase orders for laboratory items in POTS/NBS, to include obtaining quotes from qualified vendors and writing substantive justifications.
Receive and allocate incoming materials and compare information on packing slip with purchase order to verify accuracy of shipment; enter receiving information into POTS.
Inspect shipments for damage or defects; record discrepancies or damage and notify purchasing personnel.
Sort, count, package, label, insure, unpack and/or log inventory which is shipped or received.
Receive and stock shipments; process return shipments from customers.
Check status of delayed orders.
Track lost shipments, initiate proof of delivery inquiries, and obtain authorized signatures for accepted items.
Organize equipment manuals, registrations and warranties.
Work with building support staff on many day-to-day activities; serve as backup when lead person is out of office; function as critical member of evacuation team; respond to central equipment monitoring (Rees) alarms and attempt to resolve with or without outside help; participate in on/off boarding of employees.
Adhere to lab safety and hazardous materials handling requirements to ensure the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is being used; enforce continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
Carry out monthly lab safety inspection walkthroughs, record infractions; make recommendations for corrective actions.
Oversee certification operation of facility eye wash and safety shower on scheduled basis.
Interface with building maintenance personnel to correct wide range of electrical, mechanical, plumbing and facility problems.
Maintain cleanliness of the laboratory work area and equipment; serve as a point of contact for periodic facility cleaning, such as stripwaxing of the vinyl flooring.
Remove waste boxes and pallets from labs; place burn boxes and chemical waste containers in designated holding areas as needed.
Arrange for laundering of lab coats through purchase request.
REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:
Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline. Four (4) years of specialized experience plus a high school diploma is equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree.
Minimum of one (1) year of related experience.
Valid state driver’s license.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.
Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
Ability to multi-task and pay close attention to detail.
Ability to lift and maneuver delivered packages.
