Kelly Services Director of Nonclinical R&D in San Carlos, California

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Nonclinical Research and Development with experience in molecular and protein engineering, lipid technology, and drug delivery to lead our scientific team and drive the development of a novel hybrid nanoparticle composed of nucleic acids, proteins, and lipids. Our client does not discover but engineer novel drugs and modalities from first principles.

Shift : Part-time consultant. Flexible hours.

Pay: $80-$86/hr

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement innovative protein and lipid engineering strategies to enhance the efficacy, stability, and specificity of our modality.

  • Utilize state-of-the-art molecular and protein engineering techniques, such as rational design, directed evolution, and computational modeling, to engineer proteins with desired properties.

  • Personally work in the lab to drive technological innovation and development of our novel candidate.

  • Stay up to date on the latest developments in molecular and protein engineering, bioinformatics, and structural biology to inform research strategies and stay competitive in the field.

  • Communicate our science to key opinion leaders and investors in writing and presentations.

  • Foster a culture of scientific excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team.

  • Attend investor meetings and pitches.

  • Communicate with contract manufacturing organizations.

  • Hiring of Research Associates.

  • Drug candidate selection and optimization.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Protein Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 8 years of industry experience between protein engineering, lipid technology, and drug discovery.

  • Proven track record of leading successful protein engineering programs and delivering novel therapeutic candidates.

  • Expertise in molecular and protein engineering, lipid technology, drug delivery, and characterization techniques, including protein expression, purification, biophysical characterization, and LNP/liposomal formulation.

  • Proficiency in computational tools and software for protein modeling, structure prediction, and molecular dynamics simulations.

  • Strong leadership and management skills with a demonstrated ability to mentor and develop scientific talent.
