Kelly Services Microbiologist in Vancouver, Canada

Our client, a premier analytical testing laboratory and R & D partner to the legal cannabis industry in Canada, is seeking a Microbiologist to lead the setup and running of their lab. Take the next step in your career!

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Microbiology lab set up (instruments and supplies)

  • Method development (from pharmacopeia or other sources) and set up

  • Provide validation protocols and carry out validation requirements

  • SOP and document prep and review

  • Scientist/tech training

  • Supervise and perform routine testing, recording, and reporting

  • Conduct testing of client samples in a timely fashion

  • Perform laboratory equipment cleaning, verification, and calibration

  • General lab upkeep (incl. ordering and maintaining lab equipment, supplies, and reagents)

  • Analyze and review data and results

  • Provide advanced lab support to junior staff ensuring compliance to quality and H&S policies

  • Ensure lab processes conform to standard operating procedures and licensing requirements

  • Ensuring compliance with Biosecurity/Pathogen and Toxin license

  • Conduct microbial environmental monitoring of a laboratory facility

  • Ensure proper disposal of biohazardous waste

  • Assist in the development and implementation of an emergency response plan

  • Work with QA to ensure quality of results including Investigating out-of-spec results

  • Identify deviations and perform corrective action

  • Seek out ideas for improving processes

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Candidate will be required to have a MSc in microbiology and 2+ years of microbiology laboratory experience or a BSc in microbiology and 5+ years of microbiology laboratory experience

  • Microbiology compliance testing and regulatory experience is an asset

  • Knowledge of European/US pharmacopeia, GLP, and HACCP knowledge is an asset

  • Biological safety/Biosecurity experience an asset

  • A broad knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies is necessary to ensure a safe working environment

  • Ability to work and to multitask in a fast paced environment

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Demonstrated success in dynamic work environment and ability to direct a team to meet performance expectations

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)

  • Tendency to seek out ideas for improving process

  • Works well in a team environment and as an individual contributor

  • 1 year previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred

  • Good time management skills
